Silica botryoids from chemically oscillating reactions and as Precambrian environmental proxies

چکیده
Abstract In this petrographic and geochemical study, we differentiated diverse quartz botryoids, including circular-concentric, twinned, columnar, wavy, stromatolite-like structures versus synchronous biotic patterns of similar geometry size dimensions (filamentous traits stromatolites) in Precambrian cherts Barberton, South Africa, Gunflint, Canada. The botryoidal habits explored retained self-similar radially aligned acicular with concentric laminae, which are not documented biologically built stromatolites. These ancient fractals their composition imitate those chemically oscillating reactions, implying that the precipitation botryoids was fueled by abiotic diagenetic degradation organic matter subsequently metamorphosed into chert.

Production of Silica Nanoparticles from Rice Husk as Agricultural Waste by Environmental Friendly Technique
Extensive application of silica nanoparticles (SNPs) in various industrial products has led to the development of silica extraction methodologies out of various waste products. Rice husk is an agricultural waste with a high content of amorphous silica. However, the presence of metal ion impurities and unburned carbon in the rice husk content may present an adverse effect on product color and pu...
متن کاملNanomotor dynamics in a chemically oscillating medium.
Synthetic nanomotors powered by chemical reactions have potential uses as cargo transport vehicles in both in vivo and in vitro applications. In many situations, motors will have to operate in out-of-equilibrium complex chemically reacting media, which supply fuel to the motors and remove the products they produce. Using molecular simulation and mean-field theory, this paper describes some of t...
متن کاملChemically-bound xenon in fibrous silica.
High-level quantum chemical calculations reported here predict the existence and remarkable stability, of chemically-bound xenon atoms in fibrous silica. The results may support the suggestion of Sanloup and coworkers that chemically-bound xenon and silica account for the problem of "missing xenon" (by a factor of 20!) from the atmospheres of Earth and Mars. So far, the host silica was assumed ...
متن کاملTheory for Diffusion-Limited Oscillating Chemical Reactions
A kinetic description of lattice-gas automaton models for reaction-diffusion systems is presented. It provides corrections to the mean field rate equations in the diffusion-limited regime. When applied to the two-species Maginu model, the theory gives an excellent quantitative prediction of the effect of slow diffusion on the periodic oscillations of the average concentrations in a spatially ho...
